Project brief
Create a method for water delivery in the context of a rest stop, focusing on the semantics and meaning of the form which will ultimately guide the user interaction.
Development
I went through many phases of ideas, including interactive sculptures and other more idealistic concepts. Although I eventually scaled back, I've included some of them in the slideshow above.
Solution
I decided to use a "rivers coming together" metaphor to parallel the hot + cold water mixing of water faucets. I settled for a simple, geometric faucet which shows the water as it comes to the user through the glass coverings. When the faucet is off, the water does not go past the knobs, but instead cycles back so the user would not think that they are using still water. The knobs function similarly to modern faucets: the amount you lift the knob corresponds to the amount of water dispensed. In context, the faucet would be in groups connected on the sides. For practical purposes, only one unit was made.
