Bookollect

2009 / Interface design / collaboration with Paul Rubritz, Rohith Salim, Caroline Song, Gabriela Uribe, & Yvonne Yu

Social networking for book collectors.
Intuitive visualization interface.
Organized tagging and commenting.

Project brief

This project was done for a HCI research methods class, where we learned how to use various methods throughout the semester, and applied all the skills by creating an interface based on research data.

We were given the subject of book collectors and how they organize/catalog their book collections. My primary role was, in addition to practicing the research methods, create a prototype of the interface through mockups.

Practicing research methods.

Development

We went through many research methods, such as Contexual Inquiry, Contexual Design (Flow, Culture, Artifact, Physical and Sequence models), Think Aloud, Cognitive Modeling, Heuristic Evaluation, and Keystroke Level Modeling.

Solution

We ended up conceiving this social website for book collectors. It includes a visualization interface which tailors to the needs we found of book collectors regarding organization, tagging, and linking.
